ABOUT KWEDAR & CO.

Kwedar & Co. is a Fort Worth-based strategic PR and communications firm. We work with companies that make our lives possible and comfortable: manufacturers, industrial operators, logistics companies, infrastructure builders, and others whose work is essential, complex, and chronically underrepresented in the public conversation.

These are businesses with real stakes, real workforces, and real stories worth telling. Our job is to find those stories, shape them, and put them to work driving reputation, talent, and revenue growth for the companies we serve. We measure our success not in impressions, but in the impact our work has on the businesses and the people behind them.

We are a small, intentional firm with a clear point of view and a proprietary methodology. We are building a firm that becomes indispensable to the clients who trust us with their most important asset: their story. And we are creating a place where people who consider this work a calling actually want to build a career.

This role is a foundational part of that vision.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Communications Strategist is the primary relationship holder for a portfolio of clients. You are not a coordinator, a traditional account manager, or a PR executor. You are a trusted advisor: the person a CEO calls when something is happening in their business and they are not sure how to handle it, and the person who already knows what questions to ask.

You will run client relationships from the inside out. That means understanding each client’s business goals, not just their communications goals, and filtering every conversation, every opportunity, and every deliverable through that lens. You will hear what is said and what is not said. You will follow your curiosity, not to be nosy, but to understand your clients in a way no one else does.

You will direct an Account Coordinator who handles tactical execution, which means your job is to stay at the strategic level: ideating, advising, connecting dots, and nurturing the partnership. You will also work closely with our content and narrative lead on narrative development and collaborate directly with our founder on methodology, client strategy, and firm growth.

At a boutique firm, everyone wears multiple hats. But the design of this role is intentional: your primary altitude is strategy and creative origination. The Account Coordinator handles the operational execution that keeps accounts moving. The goal is for both of you to spend the majority of your time in your respective zones of genius.

Over time, you will become one of the leading practitioners of The Thread™, our proprietary discovery and narrative methodology, helping guide others through it and contributing to how it evolves.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Client Relationships

  • Own the client relationship for a portfolio of accounts, serving as the primary point of contact and strategic counsel

  • Run regular client touchpoints with full strategic preparation: an agenda, a forward-looking perspective, and a clear sense of what is working, what is at risk, and where there is opportunity

  • Listen actively and ask the right questions—the ones that surface what a client is really experiencing, not just what they reported in the last meeting

  • Understand the scope of each engagement and navigate requests confidently, knowing when to say yes, when to say ‘that’s an exciting direction and here is how we would approach it,’ and when to bring the founder into the conversation

  • Step into crisis communications situations when needed: triage, draft holding statements, coordinate response, and keep things stable until specialized support arrives

Content and Storytelling

  • Originate the strategic content that drives client programs: news releases, pitches, contributed articles, client communications, and more; setting the standard for quality and ensuring every piece sounds like the client and lands with the audiences that matter to them

  • Collaborate with the content and narrative lead to ensure narrative work is grounded in client reality and strategic intent

  • Contribute to quarterly impact reports and ongoing proof-of-value communication with clients

Media and Industry Intelligence

  • Stay current on how PR is evolving—shifts in how journalists work, changes in media consumption, emerging practices like answer engine optimization—and bring that intelligence into client strategy and to the broader firm

  • Stay current on client industries and general business news daily, connecting dots and surfacing opportunities before clients ask

  • Cultivate and maintain reporter relationships that inform and elevate client programs, setting the standard for how outreach is conducted and guiding the Coordinator on execution

  • Identify media opportunities and develop pitch angles, passing direction and context to the Coordinator for outreach and follow-up

Team and Firm Leadership

  • Direct and mentor the Account Coordinator: not just delegating tasks, but teaching, developing, and investing in their growth as a communicator and professional

  • Contribute to the broader firm as a leader: sharing knowledge freely, raising the standard of the work, and helping build a culture where everyone grows

  • Lead The Thread discovery process for your accounts and help guide other team members through it over time

WHO YOU ARE

You have a background in agency or in-house communications or PR, and your practice is current. The media landscape shifts constantly, and you shift with it. You know how to build reporter relationships and keep them alive, and you bring your own approach to doing it well.

You are genuinely invested in your clients’ success, not just their satisfaction. You think of yourself as a partner in their business, not a vendor to it. You know how to build that kind of relationship over time: the kind where a client calls you before they call anyone else, not because you have made yourself indispensable through dependency, but because you have earned their trust by consistently showing up prepared, honest, and in it with them.

You are a skilled and versatile writer with a sophisticated understanding of what makes a story work. You can write a sharp pitch and a long-form feature. More importantly, you know how to disappear into a client’s voice: how to capture the way they think, the way they speak, and the things they care about, and translate that into content that sounds unmistakably like them and resonates with the media and customers they are trying to reach.

You thrive in environments that most people would (mistakenly) call boring. Manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure, industrial services: you find the human story inside the technical process or the unglamorous operation. You do not need the client to be surface-level exciting. You delight in finding what makes them authentically, inherently interesting.

You are a student of the craft. You track how PR is evolving because you are genuinely curious about it. You notice when something shifts in how journalists work, how audiences find information, or how a new platform changes the equation, and you bring that thinking to your clients and your team.

You can hold the line in a crisis. You do not need to specialize in it, and you will not be expected to handle major incidents solo. But when something breaks, you know how to triage, draft a holding statement, and keep a client calm and protected while the specialists mobilize.

You are a real leader. You do not hoard knowledge or protect your seat at the table. Instead, you build a longer table and make sure others have a seat. You invest in the people around you, share what you know freely, and find genuine satisfaction in watching others grow because of your mentorship.

You are coachable. You do not show up with a fixed way of doing things and resist learning a new framework. You are energized by the idea of a proprietary methodology and want to help carry it forward.

Experience in complex or industrial B2B environments is a genuine plus. What matters most is that you understand business, you understand people, and you are willing to learn the industries alongside your clients.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years in agency or in-house communications or public relations required

  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trusted client and stakeholder partnerships at the executive level, with the autonomy and confidence to lead those relationships independently over time

  • Active, current media relations practice: you know how to build and nurture media relationships, particularly in this evolving landscape

  • Exceptional writer across formats: pitches, long-form content, client communications, contributed articles, etc.

  • Proven ability to write in multiple voices and adapt tone, style, and perspective to suit different clients and the audiences they need to reach

  • Strong editorial instinct: you know what is compelling, what is flat, and how to close the gap

  • Crisis communications experience: enough to triage, draft a holding statement, and keep a situation stable; deep specialization is not required

  • Experience in B2B, industrial, technical, or complex industries preferred

  • Comfortable directing and developing others rather than doing everything yourself

  • Genuine curiosity about how the PR and communications landscape is evolving

When you are ready, send your resume, up to three writing samples, and a note to hello@kwedarco.com. Skip the cover letter that recaps your resume. Instead, tell us about a client or stakeholder relationship you are proud of: what made it work, what you learned from it, and what it taught you about the kind of advisor you want to be. And tell us how you personally relate to what you found on our site.

We will be in touch.
